Holiday Diary - Day 51

Today we managed to find a couple of trains to catch and do a couple of loads of washing.

Here are some of the photos we took today.

The engine that pulled us from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead
on the Bluebell Line

The signal box at Kingscote

We went through a tunnel

And under a few bridges

Saw some antiques

Saw some other trains

Crossed the Greenwich Meridian and back again

Then we went to Eridge where we found an engine named "Ugly"

And this was the last stop Ugly pulled us to before returning

Taking on water for the return trip

The  gates at on of the level crossing had to be manually operated

Normally they have someone at the gate operating it for them but they were a little short staffed so the guard had to get off the train, close the gate, wait for the train to go past, open the gate before climbing back on board the train. Glad it was him and not me as I don't think my knees would handle climbing onto the train from ground level, it's hard enough from the platform.

Tomorrow we go to Ashford for 3 nights and from there we will be visiting Dover as well as a few other places.

Holiday Diary - Day 50

We checked the time it was going to take us to get from Stonehenge to Hellingly Eastbourne and found that it wasn't as far as it looked on the map so we figured that we did have some time for sightseeing on this leg of the trip.

Our first stop was just north of Salisbury at a place that was originally built as a home for kings. Here are some of the photos we took here.

After Old Sarum we visited Brighton.

A bridge Sue tool a liking to on the way out of Brighton

This cutting caught our eye  and the camera caught a train and a river also
We have another train to catch and some laundry to  do tomorrow. I'm sure we will be taking photos of one of those activities.
